Promoting Fair Recruitment and Employment – for hotels in Qatar
This guidance tool aims to support hotel companies in Qatar to respond to labour rights challenges by implementing appropriate policies and exercising thorough and ongoing human and labour rights due diligence.
It includes guidance and practical templates on:
- Developing company policies
- Selecting service providers
- Due diligence practices
- Improving workplace relations
Who is it for?
The guidance tool is designed primarily for hotel human resources managers, general managers and other relevant personnel within the industry. It provides sector-specific guidance that managers and departments can adapt as appropriate.
Hotel managers, brand/group managers and hotel owners must be actively involved in the development and oversight of company policies and procedures. Senior management, especially at the brand level, can contribute positively to the organisational culture and facilitate greater industry-level engagement on fair recruitment and decent work.
How was it created?
The guidance tool was created by the Institute for Human Rights and Business (IHRB). With input and support were provided by the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (ADLSA), the International Labour Organization Project Office for the State of Qatar (ILO-Qatar), and the Sustainable Hospitality Alliance (known then as International Tourism Partnership (ITP)).
It has been developed in consultation with human resources managers from more than 40 hotels in Qatar during regular Working Group sessions.
